It‘s an evidence Cloud Services are more and more settled at any kind of company and organization. But no so evident that CIOs of these companies and organizations have not control about what is actually being used. A recent study from Vanson Bourne and published by VMware unveils 37% of IT responsible suspect that employees are achieving Cloud Services without their permission, even they don’ let them know.
The study is based on a survey among 1.500 IT responsible and 3.000 employees from companies between 100 and 5.000+ people in UK, France, Germany, Nederland, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. The no declared spent on Cloud Services is estimated on 1,6 million euro average worth.
Despite this trend, that could be scandalous for somebody, it is not considered as so much negative by survey respondents. Many of them understand that this practice allows companies to faster respond to customers demands. In addition, it promotes growing and innovation. Very often, it´s about solutions IT department is planning to acquire, son it means budget savings.
On the other hand, respondents mention threats increase for company security; and the more and more frequent conflict between computer flexibility and IT control for the whole organization, reducing managing responsibility.
The study offer absolutely interesting figures. We outstand Marketing, Ad and Communication people the most given to use Cloud Services going it alone (43%) followed by Sales (33%), Product R&D (31%) and Finance (23%).
Most no declared services are sharing files and data (55%), cloud e-mail (47%), instant messenger (44%), videoconference (37%) and enterprise social networks (22%).
